Fishing Log & Catch Journal: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 September 2026. Published at https://apps.digitalshijil.com/fishing-log/privacy/ by DIGITAL SHIJIL LLC, the publisher of Fishing Log & Catch Journal ("the app").
The short version
- Your spots, trips, catches, tackle and photos are stored on your phone and nowhere else. We have no server and no account system, and we never see your log.
- The app reads your location only when you tap "Save my current position" on a spot, once, while the app is open. It never tracks you and never reads your location in the background.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.
- Google Play Billing, which the app uses to sell the one-time Pro unlock, sends Google some diagnostics. That is the only data that leaves the app, and it goes to Google, not to us: App info and performance > Diagnostics: collected, not shared, required.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you enter is kept in the app's private storage on your device: spot names, water types and notes; spot positions if you save one; trips with their dates, times, companions' names as you type them, method and the conditions you enter (weather, wind, water temperature, clarity, tide); catches with species, length, weight, depth, time, kept or released, bait or lure and notes; your tackle box; your settings.
The moon phase is calculated on the phone from the date. The app does not use any weather, tide or map service.
Location
Location is optional. A spot can be saved by name only, or you can type or paste its coordinates.
If you tap "Save my current position", the app first explains what will happen, then asks Android for your location permission (precise or approximate, your choice). It takes one position fix, saves it with that spot on your phone, and stops. The app never requests background location, never keeps listening for your position, and never sends a position anywhere. "Open in maps" hands the coordinates to the maps app you choose; what that app does is covered by its own policy.
Photos and the camera
Photos come from your camera app or the Android photo picker; the app has no camera or storage permission. Each photo is copied into the app's private storage as a new image, which removes the location, time and camera details that cameras hide inside photos (EXIF data).
Sharing and exports
Nothing leaves the app unless you share or export it yourself. Shared catch cards are new images with no location inside them, and they do not show where you were, unless you turn on "Include spot position when sharing" in Settings. The same switch decides whether a trip report PDF shows the spot's position. Where a shared file goes after that is up to you and the app you share it with.
"Export all my data" saves every record as a JSON file to a place you choose. A backup file (Pro) also contains your photos; keep it somewhere safe, because it holds your spots.
App lock
If you set an app lock PIN (Pro), only a salted, one-way hash of it is stored on your phone. The PIN is never stored, never included in exports or backup files, and cannot be recovered by anyone.
Backups
If you use Android's own backup, your log, settings and photos are included in your Google account backup so a new phone gets them back. That backup is managed by Google under your account; we never have access to it. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.
Purchases (Google Play)
Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your card or payment details. To confirm what you own, the app asks Google Play on start and when it returns to the screen. The Google Play Billing library sends Google diagnostics about that connection (App info and performance > Diagnostics: collected, not shared, required). Google's handling of that data is described in Google's privacy policy.
Deleting your data
Settings > Delete all data removes every spot, trip, catch, photo, tackle item and setting, including the app lock, from your phone. Uninstalling the app also removes everything it stored. Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Not advice, not an official document
The app records what you tell it. It does not give advice about fishing regulations, size or bag limits, or seasons, which vary by place and change often: check your local regulations. Every trip report carries this line: For personal record-keeping. Not an official document.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address with a new date. A change that collects more data would also change the app's Play Store listing.
